ABOUT PABLO

An independently built card game, made by a very small team, with some opinions about how games like this should be made.

THE GAME

Pablo is a digital version of a card game built around a simple, uncomfortable idea: you don't get to see your own hand. You're dealt three cards, you look at one of them once, and from there you're playing on memory, inference, and whatever you can pry out of the people sitting across from you.

It's a game that rewards attention. The information you need is almost always available — it went past on the discard pile four turns ago — and the players who win are the ones who were watching. That's a very different feeling from games where you win by drawing well, and it's the reason this one was worth building.

We wanted a version you could open in a browser and be playing in under ten seconds, that worked just as well on a phone on a train as on a laptop, and that didn't demand an account before it would let you try it. That's what's at pablogame.net.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

Money should never buy a better hand

This is the one we're least willing to compromise on. Nothing you can purchase in Pablo affects the cards you're dealt, the information you receive, or the rules you play under. A rare card back deals exactly the same cards as the default one. The Pro subscription changes what a win pays out and removes ads — it does not change a single thing about the game being played.

A game where the wallet decides the outcome isn't a game any more, it's a storefront with a card table drawn on it. We'd rather make less money than make that.

Free should mean free

Every mode, every rule, and every mechanic is available without spending anything. There's no trial, no energy meter, no timer counting down until you pay to keep playing. Chips are earned by playing, and you can play indefinitely without buying any.

Chips are not money

Chips have no cash value. They can't be withdrawn, cashed out, or transferred between players. Pablo has the shape of a game with a pot, because that makes the stakes feel real, but nobody is winning or losing anything but virtual chips. This isn't a gambling product and we have no interest in building one.

The server decides, not the browser

Multiplayer game logic runs on our servers, not in your browser. Your opponents' face-down cards are never sent to your device, which means they can't be read out of it — and results can't be altered by anyone editing what's running on their own machine. Building it that way was substantially more work than the alternative, and it's the reason online games can be trusted.

Ship it when it's ready

The roadmap deliberately has no dates on it. We group work into Now, Next and Later, and we'd rather tell you honestly what we're working on than commit to a quarter we picked before understanding the problem. When something ships, it moves to the shipped list.

WHO MAKES IT

Pablo is independently developed and self-published — no publisher, no investors, and no growth targets telling us to make the store more aggressive. It's funded by optional cosmetic purchases, the Pro subscription, and ads for players who haven't subscribed.

That means feature requests and bug reports go directly to the people who can act on them. If you write in, a person reads it.

GET IN TOUCH

Bug reports, feature requests, feedback on the rules, or anything else — the contact form reaches us directly. Bug reports are genuinely welcome; a clear description of what went wrong is the fastest route to it being fixed.
